I. There are religious groups who preach a theory that is false, called "Jesus only."
A. They deny the bible doctrine of "the Trinity," and affirm there is "Jesus only."
Note the following passages proving such a teaching is not of truth but of the devil
who is the father of all lies (Jn 8:44).
1. Revelations 5:1-10, "One sat on the throne." However, "a lamb . . . . slain . . . .
claled the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and root of David came to the thone, and took
the book out of the right hand of Him that sat upon the throne." That Lamb is Christ
(Rev 5:12-14; 7:9-17). But He walked up to the throne. God the Father sat on the
throne. Now none, but the perverted and spiritually illiterate would affirm that
Christ walked up to Himself and took a book out of His own hand! That would be sheer
nonsense!
2. Matthew 3:16-17 records the baptism of Jesus in Jordan. The heavens opened and a
voice spoke from there, Christ was in the Jordan river, and the Holy Spirit was seen
between the heaven and earth descending like a dove. How foolish to affirm Christ was
in Jordan, in heaven and between heaven and earth at the same instant.
3. According to Hebrews 1:1-2, God the Father created the worlds by Christ the Son,
hence they are to separate and distinct beings.
4. In I Corinthians 15:24-28, Christ the Son will on day deliver up His 1,000 year
kingdom to God the Father. Therefore they are separate and distinct beings in One God.
5. In I John 5:7, "There are three that bear record in heaven." Some claim this verse
was not in the original texts. If this is so, then note verse 2, where you have God
the Father; verse 5, where we see God the Son; and verse 6 where we encounter God the
Holy Spirit.
B. If there is but one person (Jesus only) to the being and make-up of Almighty God,
then Jesus Christ must to have been an insane individual because:
1. It is said, "the Father sent the Son" (I Jn 4:14). This would be impossible if one
or the other did not truly exist.
2. Jesus said, "I came to do thy will, O God" (Heb 10:7-10). He then must have
submitted to a will that did not exist.
3. Jesus called "the Father," "God," and the Father in turn called Jesus, "God" (Heb
1:8-13).
4. Additionally Christ is seated on the right hand of the Father's throne (Heb 8:1;
10:12; 12:2; I Pet 3:21-22; Mt 26:64).
5. Further, Jesus "entered into heaven to appear in the presence of God" (Heb 10:24).
Certainly not to appear in His own presence!
6. Christ, while on earth, prayed to His "Father in heaven" (Jn 14:16, 26; Jn 16:7-13;
Jn 1:11-13). Only an insane man would imagine himself in heaven, while he was really
on earth and then pray to himself!
C. Then too, see that:
1. God the Father is "The Father of our Lord jesus Christ" (I Pet 1:3; Jn 3:16).
2. Christ the Son received from God the Father honour and glory (II Pet 1:16-18).
(Read those passages when the Apostles were with Christ on earth at the times when the
Father spake from heaven.)
3. Jesus Christ is called "an advocate with the Father" (I Jn 2:1-2). Not the same as
being the Father.
4. The Father and Son are distinguished one from another in Jude 20-21.
5. The last book in the Bible is "The Revelation God the Father gave unto God the Son"
(Rev 1:1).
6. All during God the Son's stay on earth, he said His Father was in heaven at that
identical time (Mt 5:16; 5:48; 6:1; 6:9; 6:32; 7:11; 7:21; 10:33; 12:50; 18:19;
23:8-9; 23:22 to list a few).
7. Father and the Son clearly distinguished in all of Christ's prayers (Mt 11:25-27;
26:39; 26:53; 27:46; Jn 11:41-42; Jn 17).
8. Christ commissioned and commanded the church to baptize "in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" (Mt 28:19).
9. In John 5:31-32 and John 5:26-37, the Son bore one witness, and the Father bore a
separate witness thus constituting two witnesses, not the same witness twice.
10. In John 10:27-30, the believer is kept in two separate sets of hands indicating
once more at least two persons in the one Godhead.
11. In Acts 7:56, Stephen observed, "I see Jesus standing at the right hand of God."
12. John inquired, "Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that
Jesus is the Son of God" (I Jn 5:5-7). Only a fool would claim that Jesus is His own
son, or His own Father or His own begetter!
II. The Son is called God:
A. In John 1:1, "He was God"
B. In I John 5:20, He is the "true God"
C. In Romans 9:5, He is the "blessed God"
D. In Titus 2:13, He is the "great God and Saviour"
III. The attributes (things God is said to be) of God belong to the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit equally.
A. The attribute of eternal existence:
1. Of the Father, it is written, "from everlasting to everlasting thou art God" (Ps
90:2).
2. The Son claimed, "I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, the First and
the Last" (Rev 1:8, 17; Jn 1:2; Mic 5:2).
3. It is recorded of the Holy Spirit that He is the "eternal Spirit" (Heb 9:14).
B. The attribute of infinite (limitless) power: (Omnipotence - all power):
1. I Peter 1:5 declares all believers to be "kept by the power of God"
2. II Corinthians 12:9 speaks of the "power of Christ"
3. Romans 15:19 tells of the "power of the Spirit of God"
C. Omniscience (all science or knowledge):
1. The Father "searcheth the heart" (Jer 17:10)
2. Of the Son, it is written, "all the churches know that I am he which searcheth the
reigns and hearts" (Rev 2:23)
3. "Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God" (I Cor 2:11).
D. Omnipresence (all or ever present):
1. Father's (Jer 23:24)
2. Son's (Mt 18:20)
3. Spirit's (Ps 139:7)
E. The attribute of holiness:
1. Claimed by the Father (Rev 15:4)
2. "He (Son) that is Holy and True" (Rev 3:7)
3. "The Spirit is Truth" (I Jn 5:6)
Every attribute listed in the Word of Truth, (and we have mentioned here only a few)
is attributed to the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Therefore they are one in
essence, character and Being. They are not three Gods, but one God Who has manifested
Himself in the Word in three forms of Being. In the next chapter, by merely comparing
those texts testifying as to the Being and work of both the Father and the Son, will
demonstrate their equality in all things. JM
