I. The results of Christ's death:

A. A propitiation is provided:

1. Romans 3:25, "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his
blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through
the forbearance of God."

2. Now a propitiation may be one of two things:

a. When the Greek word hilasterion is being translated, as in Romans 3:25, the word
means the altar, or place whre the offering is made. Certainly it is "in Christ" that
the offering for sin is made.

b. However, when the Greek word, hilasmos is being translated, as in I John 2:2 and I
John 4:10, then it means "the offering" itself.

c. The first word in Hebrews 9:5 has been translated "mercy seat."

B. The "sin of the world" is taken away:

1. John 1:29, "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the
Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world."

2. Now we know this is the sin of unbelief--the one sin that can send a man to hell.
Hence John 3:18 reveals the lost man "is condemned already, because he hath not
believed." John 3:36 adds, "he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the
wrath of God abideth on him." Thus, when the Holy Spirit came, as indicated in John
16:8-9, He reproved "the world of sin . . . . because they believe not on me."

C. Potentially, the power of sin is nullified:

1. Thus we hear Hebrews 9:26, "For then must he often have suffered since the
foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put
away sin by the sacrifice of himself."

2. Therefore, although "we had the sentence of death in ourselves" (II Cor 1:9), "He
delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver" (Cor 1:10).

D. Redemption from the curse of the law is also ours:

1. Galatians 3:13, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a
curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree."

2. Redemption means the "paying of the price that was against us, so as to once more
have us as his own" (I Cor 6:20).

3. James 2:10 declares, "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one
point, he is guilty of all." How hopeless would our plight be apart from Christ's
redemptive work.

E. Furthermore we have deliverance from the bondage of the law:

1. Colossians 2:14, "Having blotted out the hand writing of ordinances that was
against us, which was contrary to us; and he hath taken it out of the way, nailing it
to the cross."

2. (See Rm 7:1-4, then especially note verses 4 and 6) "Wherefore, my brethren, ye
also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to
another . . . . But now we are delivered from the law."

F. In Christ, the barrier of difference between Jew and Gentile is removed:

1. Ephesians 2:14-16, "For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken
down the middle wall of parition between us; having abolished in his flesh the enmity
. . . .for to make in himself of the twain one new man, so making peace; and that he
might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity
thereby."

2. Galatians 3:26, 28, adds "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ
Jesus . . . . There is neither Jew nor Greek . . . . bond nor free . . . . male nor
female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."

G. We thereby given the ground for sonship (Gal 4:3-5)

H. Reconciliation with God is herein provided:

1. Reconciliation is that act of bringing two parties who were at enmity or variance
back into a state of agreement and peace.

2. Ephesians 2:13 "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made
night by the blood of Christ."

3. Romans 5:10, "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death
of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

I. Forgiveness of sins is included (Eph 1:7).

J. Closely related is cleansing from all sin for believers (I Jn 1:7, 9; Ps 51:7).

K. Justification is another result:

1. The word is a judicial term and means to receive an acquittal from guilt; or to be
made just as if I'd never sinned.

2. Romans 5:1, 9 and Acts 13:38-39

L. Condemnation too is removed forever:

1. Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now, no condemnation to them that are in Christ
Jesus."

2. John 5:24, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth
on him . . . . hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is
passed from death unto life."

3. John 3:18, "He that believeth is not condemned."

M. Satan is cast out and brought to nothing:

1. John 12:31-33

2. Hebrews 2:14

NOTE: These are not, by any means, all the death of Christ accomplished in the way of
results but should suffice to indicate a great and noble work.

II. Included in the work and mission of Christ is His resurrection:

A. The resurrection is a fact presented by the Word as in II Timothy 2:8, "Remember
that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead."

B. The evidences of it are many:

1. There is the empty tomb (Lk 24:3; Jn 20:1-8)

2. His appearances afterward (Acts 1:1-3; Jn 20:16; Mt 28:5, 8, 9; Lk 24:34; 24:13-14,
22-25; Jn 20:19; 20:26-29; 21:5-7; I Cor 15:4-7)

3. The evidence of the great change brought about in the disciples.

4. The change in the day of rest and worship (Acts 20:7; I Cor 16:2)

5. Christ's own witness (Rev 1:18).

C. The results of it:

1. It fulfilled God's promise to the fathers (Acts 13:32-33).

2. It establishes the deity of Christ beyond doubt (Rm 1:4)

3. It is a proof of the acceptance of the basis of our justification (Rm 4:23, 25).

4. Because of it we "are begotten unto a living hope" (I Pet 1:3-4).

5. It furnishes us with an impregnable ground of assurance (II Cor 4:14). JM
